Kangana Ranaut mourns Kanada star Puneeth Rajkumar's demise

Kanada star Puneeth Rajkumar's demise has left the entire nation in utter shock. The actor's last rites were performed yesterday on October 31 at Bengaluru, Karnataka. The power star was laid to rest at Kanteerava Studios, next to his mother, Parvathamma Rajkumar who passed away in May of 2017.

Post his demise, many people from the film fraternity are mourning his loss. Taking to their respective social media handles, many Bollywood celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan have paid him their respect and tribute. Mourning his loss, actress Kangana Ranaut too took to her Instagram and shared a throwback video of the late actor. Kangana expressed that it was a ‘big loss’ for the industry. The actress had re-shared an old video of Puneeth with spiritual saint Sadhguru from an event.

Fondly known as Appu, Puneeth Rajkumar passed away suffering a fatal cardiac arrest on October 29. The actor was reportedly working out in his gym when he complained of chest pains and was later rushed to a hospital immediately.

Here’s the theatre occupancy across India permitted for Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer Sooryavanshi

Over the past year and a half, theatres have remained closed on account of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, with things finally seeming to return to normalcy, theatres across the country are opening up albeit with certain restrictions. In fact, respective state governments of India have issued protocols that need to be followed, which in turn might affect the overall business of films releasing in theatres. Currently with the Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi coming up for release, Bollywood Hungama takes a look at the occupancy in each state to ascertain how these regulation could affect the overall business of the film.

Unlike the pre Covid times a majority number of states within India, viz. Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Bihar- Jharkhand, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and Assam have limited seating to 50% occupancy during any given show. On the other hand a few states like Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Gujarat, Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh have permitted 100% occupancy, while a few territories like Meghalaya and Jammu & Kashmir have permitted 30% and 25% occupancy respectively.

Sooryavanshi is the first big ticket Bollywood entertainer to hit screens is expected to see a sustained growth in business at the box office.

Madhur was seen wearing a pink hoodie, and Zeenat was sporting a black polka dot dress. Also, she was seen rocking grey hair in a short bob. Sharing the picture, Madhur wrote the caption like a true fanboy. He mentioned how he is always delighted to meet Zeenat Aman. He also called her the "Original Glamorous Diva". Farhan Akhtar says Jee Le Zaraa is an attempt to see the world through women’s point of view

For an industry that has explored diverse genres, Bollywood has only a handful of female buddy films. Set to take Priyanka-Katrina-Alia’s Jee Le Zaraa on floors next year, according to print publication Farhan says telling women’s stories is “healthy” for the creative world.

Akhtar states that Jee Le Zaraa, written by Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti and him, is his attempt to see the world through the gaze of women, “Whether it’s a drama, comedy or thriller, there should be films made about women. That balance is healthy for the creative world. Where you have the male point of view, you also have the female point of view on things. Emotionally, the construct of the two is similar on a certain plane yet different. To see the world through women’s eyes is important in popular culture. The more we embrace it, the healthier it will be for society.”

Akhtar hopes to take the road-trip movie, slated for a 2023 release, on floors next year. “The plan is to get into production in the latter part of next year. I am overjoyed at the response to the announcement. It goes to show that there is space for stories about girls going out and doing their thing.” Shooting in the post-pandemic world will be a novel experience for the director-actor. While he is glad that the wheels of the entertainment industry are turning again, Akhtar believes the emotional repercussions of the pandemic will be understood at a later stage.

In August, on the 20th anniversary of Dil Chahta Hai (2001), Farhan Akhtar announced that he will return to the director’s chair with Jee Le Zaraa, starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt.

Sikandar Kher gained 12 kilos for Dev Patel's directorial debut Monkey Man

Speaking about his huge transformation, Sikandar says, ''Monkey Man is the biggest opportunity being thrown at me. It is one step ahead to reach out to a completely new audience. I wanted to give it my all. My part in the film requires a bulky figure and I have worked very hard to alter my structure to suit the role. An actor is only as good as his films. That's it. Life's thrown this huge opportunity towards me and I am working very hard to stay true to my character. My reel life characters have been very personal for me. I try to look like them, think like them, and act like them. It won't be wrong to say I like to get under the skin of every role that comes my way. Obviously, the change is a gradual process but then I feel confident now, confident enough to tell you that my part in Monkey Man is who I am at the moment."

According to Deadline, "Patel plays an unlikely hero who emerges from prison to take on a world enmeshed in corporate greed and eroding spiritual values and seeking revenge from those who took everything from him years before."

Netflix has struck a $30 million deal for the film. It also stars Shobhita Dhulipala.

Manushi Chhillar roped in for UNICEF’s nationwide youth campaign

Former Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar, who is getting the biggest launch for a Bollywood debutante with her being cast opposite Akshay Kumar in Prithviraj, has been roped in by UNICEF for a youth campaign that looks to envision the India of tomorrow.

About the YuWaah initiative, Manushi, who is a self-made young achiever, says, “Youth is like a spark that can light lamps. We are the future, and whatever we sow today, we are going to reap a lot more of it in the future. India has more than 300 million young people, and by preparing them for the transition to work and engaged citizenship, the potential for India’s progress would be unlimited.“

Manushi, who won the Miss World crown 17 years after Priyanka Chopra won it for our country, lays down the roadmap to achieve important goalposts for India’s transformation by actively engaging the youth from here on. The actress says, “There is an urgent need to connect young people to 21st-century skills and livelihood opportunities, while engaging them as change-makers effectively. Young people bring fresh ideas and a new outlook to the most pressing problems, and we need to provide them with platforms to take their ideas forward.”

She adds, “This is something I experienced while participating in Miss World as well, where everyone would bring forward an idea – no matter how big or how small, and organizations that have the necessary resources to enable these ideas will step up to support. This will not just help the society at large, but also be a learning experience for that young person.”

Manushi further adds, “For far too long, adults have made the decisions for young people, and the time is now to involve them in decision-making, especially about them and their future.”

Manushi Chhillar starrer Prithviraj will release theatrically worldwide on January 21, 2022.

Harold and Kumar star Kal Penn comes out as gay, reveals he's engaged to longtime partner Josh

Indian-American actor Kal Penn, known for his work in House, Designated Survivor, the Harold and Kumar film franchise, has come out gay. The actor also revealed that has been in a relationship with his partner Josh for 11 years and the couple is engaged.

In his new book You Can't Be Serious, the actor shares the story of how he met his fiancé Josh and fell in love when Penn was living in Washington. "I've always been very public with everybody I've personally interacted with. Whether it's somebody that I meet at a bar, if Josh and I are out or we're talking to friends," Penn told PEOPLE tabloid. "I'm really excited to share our relationship with readers. But Josh, my partner, my parents, and my brother, four people who I'm closest to in the family, are fairly quiet. They don't love attention and shy away from the limelight."

"Figuring out the narrative [in the book], of how to respect who they really are, with telling my story — that includes: my work life, both in Hollywood and DC, it includes my love life with Josh and how we met, it includes my parents, to the extent that I'm willing to share stories about their upbringing," he told the tabloid. "So that was the most important thing for me. I wanted my story to be authentic from my perspective and told in a way that makes you feel like you really get to know me."

In his book You Can't Be Serious, Penn talked about his first date with Josh and wrote, "I thought, 'This obviously is not going to work out. I have one day off from The White House and this dude is unironically watching cars go around and make left turns? Next thing you know, it's been a couple months and we're watching NASCAR every Sunday. I'm like, 'What is happening?' I wanted the reader to enjoy the love and the humor through all of those stories."

"I shared things with my parents and close friends first," he told PEOPLE. "I know this sounds jokey, but it's true: When you've already told your Indian parents and the South Asian community that you intend to be an actor for a living, really any conversations that come after that are super easy. They're just like, 'Yeah, okay.' I felt very supported by everyone. That's a wonderful thing. I know everybody has different experiences with that and so I definitely feel very fortunate."

Penn said, "I discovered my own sexuality relatively late in life compared to many other people. There's no timeline on this stuff. People figure their s--- out at different times in their lives, so I'm glad I did when I did."

Kal Penn is happily prepping for his wedding. Meanwhile, his book will be available on November 2.
