Subhash Ghai reveals original Khalnayak cast was Jackie Shroff and Nana Patekar

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai is using this lockdown to work on his upcoming projects. The director revealed that he has been teaching his film school students one hour daily amid lockdown. Speaking to a daily, the filmmaker revealed that he is already working on the sequel of Khalnayak and is also gearing up for Kalicharan remake, the film which marked his debut as a director.

Ghai said that for the past six to seven months, he has been only working on creating content and is ready with two bound scripts. The sequel to Khalnayak will take the original story forward. The original film featured Sanjay Dutt as Ballu and Madhuri Dixit. The filmmaker will take the story further as Ballu’s character comes out of jail. It was Sanjay Dutt who urged Ghai to pen the sequel. He said that part 2 took them two years to write and it will feature a younger villain with a blockbuster cast just like the original film.

Interestingly, Khalnayak was supposed to be a Hollywood outing with Omar Sharif and Ashok Amritraj as the producers. According to Ghai, he opted out because he did not want to make a film in a language that he wasn’t familiar with. He revealed that he was prepping for an art-house kind of movie with Jackie Shroff and Nana Patekar headlining as the cop and the criminal. The filmmaker said that it just ended up becoming mainstream masala entertainer with Sanjay Dutt as the Khalnayak, a love story, track related to the mother, multiple songs!

Ghai also promised that the sequel will find a connection with the new generation. He also said that they could even work on a six-hour digital series by developing characters since a thriller could engage the audience.

Speaking of his directorial debut Kalicharan, the remake of 1976 drama has a gripping screenplay with the same kind of plot but a new way to present it. Shatrughan Sinha starred as a mighty cop and criminal in the film. He was, at the time, busy doing several villainous roles in the film industry when he was approached for it. Ghai said that NN Sippy was producing and Sanjeev Kumar and Rajesh Khanna’s names had been mentioned. But, the filmmaker insisted that he had written the story keeping Shatrughan Sinha in mind. At first, he turned down the role of another cop film. When narrated to him by Ghai, he loved it. The filmmaker further added that two or three young actors have shown keen interest in the remake over the years.

Khalnayak centered around the escape and attempted capture of the criminal Ballu (Sanjay Dutt) by Inspector Ram (Jackie Shroff) and his girlfriend officer Ganga (Madhuri Dixit). The film released in 1993.

Kalicharan, on the other hand, starred Shatrughan Sinha, Reena Roy, Ajit Khan, Danny Denzongpa, Madan Puri, and Premnath. It released in 1976.

Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivi makers fear sets will be destroyed due to rains, have incurred losses of Rs. 5 crores so far amid lockdown

With film productions halted since March amid nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus outbreak, several production houses are facing losses since the schedules were abruptly ended. Kangana Ranaut starrer Thalaivi, in which she is essaying the role of Jayalalithaa, has reportedly incurred Rs. 5 crores loss so far due to the lockdown.

The reports have stated that the 45-day schedule was supposed to kick off on March 10. The makers have constructed the Parliament House at the Ramakrishna Cine Studios in Hyderabad. They were to wrap up the shooting in mid-April followed by the Chennai schedule. Shaailesh Singh, the producer, reveals that they will have to wrap up the shooting before the monsoon arrives or the elaborate sets will be destroyed. He said that reconstructing it would be an expensive affair.

The makers are also worried that the two elaborate sets that were built in Hyderabad and Chennai may get destroyed once it starts raining. Vishnu Vardhan Induri, the producer of the film, revealed that they called off Hyderabad shoot amid lockdown. He further said that they had recreated Mount Road at the AVM Studio in Chennai and was supposed to do patchwork shoot there. He revealed that about 40 percent of the film is yet to be filmed!

Shaailesh Singh further said that they were unable to shoot in Hyderabad for a single day amid lockdown but paid the studio already. He states that even if they get a 10-day window, they will wrap up outdoor portions.

Based on the story of legendary actor turned politician, the trilingual film is being directed by Vijay and also stars Arvind Swamy. Produced by Vishnu Vardhan Iduri and Shaailesh R Singh and directed by Vijay, Thalaivi is scheduled to release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on 26th June, 2020.

Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon starrer to be titled as Second Innings

Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon were absolutely adored for their fun and quirky chemistry in Bareilly Ki Barfi. The duo’s comic timing was lauded by the audiences and critics alike and they are all set to star in another venture directed by Abhishek Jain. Even though the project has been delayed due to the infamous Coronavirus, it looks like the team has made a good albeit small progress. The makers have finally settled for a title for their upcoming film which will also star Paresh Rawal and Dimple Kapadia.

Director Abhishek Jain confirmed that the film will be titled as Second Innings as it perfectly fits their story. Revolving around a couple that decides to adopt parents to fill the void in their lives, this comedy will tackle another social issue. Abhishek further explained that they were supposed to begin filming in March in Delhi, but the makers are now waiting for normalcy to return so that they can go ahead with their schedule.

We can’t wait to see what fun Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon have in store for us with this unconventional script.

Karan Johar apologises profusely for showing insensitivity through his social media posts amid lockdown

Filmmaker Karan Johar has apologized profusely for showing insensitivity in trying times like this global pandemic, through his social media posts. His reaction came after he shared a video of Australian comedian Greta Lee Jackson’s parody video of normal people—where medical professionals were working round the clock to a man asking for a decrease in his rent after being left homeless. This came after celebrities were posting videos from their comfortable homes.

The video also called out Ellen DeGeneres for “broadcasting from her mansion”, Australian news anchor Samantha Armytage for saying, “we are all in this together” from his property, among others. The video ended with the quote, “We are so glad you are ok. You are the true heroes. Give us your money.”

After watching the video, Karan Johar took to Twitter on Sunday to apologize. “This hit me hard and I have realised many of my posts may have been insensitive to many. I apologise profusely and wish to add none of it was intentional and came from a place of sharing but clearly may have lacked emotional foresight. I am sorry,” he added.

IU and Suga of BTS team up for an upcoming single releasing on May 6

A summer bop is on the way! Korean musician sensation Lee Ji-eun, professionally known as IU and rapper-songwriter-producer Suga (Min Yoongi) of the biggest band in the world BTS are collaborating on an upcoming single which is releasing on May 6. The 26-year-old singer is ready for her comeback and her agency confirmed the news of the collaboration.

“As musicians of the same age, the two singers were able to relate to one another and use that as a foundation for exchanging opinions. They created their own unique synergy, which is reflected in their song," Soompi reports.

As per her agency EDAM Entertainment, IU's upcoming music video was filmed recently which is completely different from what she has done in the past. She has also worked on the concept, songwriting, production, and composing of the single!

This news comes on the day Suga completed three days since debuted as a producer when he collaborated with singer Suran for the song 'Wine'. He has also worked with Tablo of Epik High on 'Song Request' for South Korean singer Lee So-ra. He produced a track for Epik High's 'Sleepless' titled 'Eternal Sunshine'. He produced the digital single 'We Don't Talk Together' for singer Heize last year. The track was produced and co-written by Suga, Heize along with El Captixn and Heize as co-composers.

In January 2020, Halsey and Suga collaborated on her album 'Manic' and released 'Suga's Interlude' which featured him and the track was produced by Suga.

"Negativity thrown at a person does not change reality"- Kanika Kapoor breaks silence, issues statement

In March, shortly after her return from London, singer Kanika Kapoor was diagnosed with Covid-19. She recovered after testing positive for as many as five times, and is now discharged from the hospital. Several rumours suggesting that she dodged the mandatory screening at the airport and later hosted lavish parties at her hometown Lucknow after returning, were doing the rounds. After getting discharged, Kanika has broken silence for the first time and has put out a statement on social media. She says rumours of her escaping the screening or throwing parties have no truth to them.

"Every person that I have come in contact with be it in UK, Mumbai or Lucknow has shown no symptoms of Covid-19. In fact all those tested have been negative," she wrote.

She further gave a dateline of events and said she hadn't developed any symptoms immediately after her return, and hence attended a gathering. "I travelled from UK to Mumbai on March 10 and was duly screened at the international airport. I travelled to Lucknow the following day on March 11 to see my family. There was no screening set up for domestic flights. On March 14 and 15 I attended a friend's lunch and dinner. There was no party hosted by me and I was in absolute normal health. I had symptoms on March 17 and 18 so I requested to be tested," she wrote. Read her full statement below.

Irrfan Khan loses his mother; his friends don't know where he is

On Saturday actor Irrfan Khan’s mother passed away in Jaipur during these troubled times of a lockdown. Irrfan couldn’t be present for his mother’s last rites. It is presumed that he is abroad getting medical attention for his prolonged illness.

Apparently he has flown back to the UK for treatment after the completion of Angrezi Medium. But what kind of medical attention could Irrfan be getting during these times of the Coronavirus? More importantly, being unwell himself how has Irrfan taken this bereavement?

Deepak Dobriyal a very close friend of the actor and the last to have worked with him in Angrezi Medium, says, “I heard about Irrfan’s mother. It is really sad. I haven’t spoken to Irrfan bhai for five months.”

Shoojit Sircar who worked with Irrfan in Piku says, “I don’t know where he is. I haven’t spoken to him yet.”
