The Gray Man sequel starring Ryan Gosling in the works; Russo Brothers also developing a spin-off

Following the immensely successful release of The Gray Man this weekend, where it debuted as the No. 1 movie in 92 countries, Netflix is cementing plans for the IP to become a major spy franchise. A sequel to The Gray Man, is now in development with star Ryan Gosling and directors Joe and Anthony Russo set to return. The Russos and AGBO’s Mike Larocca will produce along with Joe Roth and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum for Roth Kirschenbaum Films. The Gray Man co-writer Stephen McFeely is writing.

A spin-off film, written by acclaimed screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool, Zombieland) is set to explore a different element of The Gray Man universe. The logline is being kept under wraps. The Gray Man is based on the best-selling book series by Mark Greaney.

The Gray Man is the third film from AGBO to premiere on Netflix, and the company’s second consecutive debut at #1 worldwide, with a sequel to follow. AGBO's, 2020’s Extraction starring Chris Hemsworth, [is the 5th most popular film on Netflix] has a sequel to be released on Netflix in 2023.

Talking about the development of the sequel, Joe and Anthony Russo shared, “The audience reaction to The Gray Man has been nothing short of phenomenal. We are so appreciative of the enthusiasm that fans across the world have had for this film. With so many amazing characters in the movie, we had always intended for the Gray Man to be part of an expanded universe, and we are thrilled that Netflix is announcing a sequel with Ryan, as well as a second script that we’re excited to talk about soon.”

Scott Stuber, Head of Global Film at Netflix, shared, "With The Gray Man, the Russos delivered an edge-of-your-seat spectacle that audiences around the world are loving. We're excited to continue to partner with them and the team at AGBO as they build out The Gray Man universe."

EXCLUSIVE: Taapsee Pannu doesn’t want to compare the current stardom of actresses to the stardom of Sridevi; says, “There was only one Sridevi”

Taapsee Pannu is known to speak her mind and more often than not, the actress has been very candid about the inequality in the film industry. While she states that it is the view of the world that has led to this gender disparity in terms of remuneration and privileges, she has also maintained that there are many actresses like her who have been fighting for this cause. All the actress wants is to be treated as equals and to be given work based on merit and not gender. During the promotions of Shabaash Mithu too, the actress was seen having a rather no holds barred interview with Bollywood Hungama, where she exclusively spoke about the constant discrimination and inequality in the film industry.

The actress made some strong and impactful statements about how the budget of her entire film is actually equal to a A-list male actor’s salary. During the same Bollywood Hungama interview she was asked about the stardom that Sridevi enjoyed. For the uninitiated, not only was she the first female superstar in Bollywood but the actress was actually an Indian superstar who enjoyed equal stardom in Tamil and Telugu industry as well. Speaking about it, Taapsee said, “But there has been only one Sridevi in so many years. So many other actresses have tried. Sridevi is like rare of the rarest blessing for our industry. She is just one Sridevi. We can’t generalize on the basis of that.”

She went on to add, “We cannot take one such example generalizing that if she had the privilege, all actresses will get the same privilege. On the other hand, when we look at heroes, there are like 50 heroes who have the same privileges. That ratio is very lopsided and for that, it will take years to get it to equal.”

Taapsee Pannu has time and again spoken about the disparity between remuneration given to an actress compared to an actor. She also candidly discussed about how audiences themselves wait for reviews in case of a female centric film whereas a male centric film often enjoys a great first day opening even without reviews.

Karan Johar rubbishes reports of Akshay Kumar - Samantha Ruth Prabhu project

The entertainment portals were flying high last week with reports—false, as they turned out to be—of Karan Johar signing on Akshay Kumar and Samantha Parbhu for a mythological film.

However, when I touched base with Karan Johar, he dismissed the rumour as rubbish. “I am directing Sam and Akshay? That is news to me,” said Karan. It all started after watching the resounding chemistry between Akshay and Samantha on Koffee With Karan. Fans of the two stars began speculating about the possibility of a partnership between the pair in a Karan Johar film.

Sorry, but it is not happening. At least not for now.

EXCLUSIVE: Huma Qureshi, Mrunal Thakur to star in Dinesh Vijan's next production Pooja Meri Jaan

Huma Qureshi is set to reunite with Dinesh Vijan. The actress will star in Maddock Films' next production Pooja Meri Jaan. With the announcement, July has exciting things in store for Huma Qureshi. This marks her second collaboration with Dinesh Vijan after Badlapur. The film will be directed by Navjot Gulati and co-directed by Vipasha Arvind. The actress is looking forward to this month as she celebrates her birthday on July 28.

In an announcement video filled with thrilling intrigue, we see a “not so innocent” proposal dedicated to Pooja, where an admirer gives her the choice to either say yes, or see him become history! What happens next? What will Pooja do? The Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik production leaves us guessing right till the very end!

Boasting of a stellar star cast that features Huma Qureshi, Mrunal Thakur, Vikram Singh Chauhan and Vijay Raaz the film has now wrapped shoot. The film has been directed by Navjot Gulati, co-directed by Vipasha Arvind and written by Kanishka & Navjot Gulati.

The teaser of Maharani season 2 was out earlier this month and there is lot of buzz and excitement for the new season. "It’s a working birthday for me and I love it. Honestly, I’ve worked throughout this last year and I am really grateful for that. Looking forward to keep being busier and happier, " says Huma Qureshi.

Besides Maharani Season 2, Huma has a series of releases this year from Double XL to Monica O My Darling and Tarla Dalal.

Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal's stalker arrested; has been harassing her for a long time

Bollywood couple Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal recently returned to Mumbai after ringing in the actress’ first birthday post marriage in Maldives with their friends. It was reported recently that a complaint was lodged at Mumbai’s Santacruz police station after the couple received death threats. The stalker has been arrested. But, new updates reveal that the story was exaggerated.

As per a report in a media portal Hindustan Times, an insider said that it is not as serious as it was being reported. There was a stalker who showed up time to time unannounced and has been harassing Katrina Kaif for a really long time. The police was notified and a complaint was filed, accordingly. Manjunath Singhe, the deputy commissioner of police (zone 9), confirmed that the arrest was made and the investigation is in process.

On the work front, Katrina Kaif will next be seen in the film PhoneBhoot with Ishaan Khatter and Siddhant Chaturvedi. She will also star in Sriram Raghavan's Merry Christmas with Vijay Sethupathi, Radhika Sarathkumar which is set for December 23 release. The actress will reunite with Salman Khan on Tiger 3, which also stars Emraan Hashmi. The actress will also star in Jee Le Zaraa, helmed by Farhan Akhtar, co-starring Priyanka Chopra and Alia Bhatt.

On  the other hand, Vicky Kaushal has the biopic Sam Bahadur, helmed by Meghna Gulzar and stars Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh. He will next star in Shashank Khaitan's Govinda Mera Naam with Bhumi Pednekar, and Kiara Advani, Laxman Utekar’s untitled next with Sara Ali Khan and a film with Tripti Dimri in the pipeline.

Fardeen Khan and mother-in-law Mumtaz to feature in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi

Fardeen Khan’s comeback seems to be finally happening. Not only has he completed a Sanjay Gupta production (directed by Kookie Gulati) Fardeen is also now the first major male actor to sign up for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘chick flick’ Heeramandi. Fardeen plays the love interest of one of the sex workers in Bhansali’s brothel saga.

Says a source close to the development, “It is not a negligible role. Just because Heeramandi has the women characters at the forefront, it is being presumed that the men have very little to do. Not true. Fardeen has a substantial role. He has been working on his accent and body language for some time now. He is very excited about working with Bhansali for the first time.”

Fardeen has already started shooting for Heeramandi. Interestingly Fardeen’s mother-in-law the legendary Mumtaz also plays a stellar part in Heeramandi.
